Another activity we do every time we travel is check out a couple thrift stores. This trip I shopped three. These are all in Kihei.
Ka Mana’olana Thrift Store
Ka Mana’olana Thrift Store is only open Monday, Thursday, and Friday. It’s a very small shop with lots of goodies, and has ample parking. If you are in the area and want to stop in, make sure it’s early. I was lucky that she was just checking out a customer as I walked in, so I ended up the only one in the shop.
I spent $10 and came home with a poncho (below), pajamas, a dress, and a top. I bought this for $4. I saw one similiar in a local market here for $35. The dress I bought is in the picture with the $1 dress below.
Here are the pajamas and a shirt.
These two pieces of clothing I will probably cut up. Here is a close up of the pjs. This is the cutest Italian-theme flannel.
And this shirt I will cut for the lace. So pretty.
Salvation Army Thrift Store
It was a little difficult to find this store, but once we did I was so glad we hunted for it. It is real spacious and well lit. The only issue I had with this store is that none of the clothes are sized. In smaller stores that’s not a problem, but with these long racks – several of them – I needed to go through all of them. They have a large selection of housewares which I wasn’t interested in since we’re traveling, but Dave found a Hawaiian shot glass for our collection. The prices are good and the day we went it was Seniors Day so the shirt I bought was reduced. It was worth going to this shop, but be sure to allow some time to look at everything. I absolutely love this shirt! Can’t wait to wear it this spring.
Rainbow Attic
The last shop we went to was the Rainbow Attic. I visited this shop a couple years ago when we were in Kihei and I didn’t buy anything, but did love the layout of the store. On this trip I stopped by the $1 bins outside and found a dress. That was a bargain! However, looking through the store, as I remember from last time, everything is pretty pricey. There was a used tablecloth (was the same mud cloth table covering from Mama’s Fish House) and they wanted $12 for it. I would have spent $4 for the fabric, but not $12. I went to the markdown rack and I pulled out a dress and it was marked down half from $300. They had lovely things, but I don’t shop for high end clothing. I am happy with my dress!! I’m sure when we are in Kihei in the future I’ll still stop by there. Who knows I might find another bargain!
The blue dress I bought from the first thrift shop. The sleeveless short dress is the one I bought for $1 at Rainbow Attic.
While we were on vacation, I also read three books. I always leave books behind so that others can enjoy. Here are the ones I read.
Then for the long trip home I read another one. I had never read any of her books, but I sure will be looking for more to read in the future.
That’s all for now. Been a bit under the weather since we returned home a week ago. Lots of fabric projects in my head right now. I just need to get feeling a bit better before I jump in. Can you believe January is almost over?
